Council Workshop to Discuss Proposed Millage Rate

Council workshops the FY2027 millage Thursday; the Hammerheads host Game 2 tonight.

Jupiter's proposed town millage for 2026-27 holds the general fund and capital rate flat and adds a separate fire line on top of it, and the Town Council takes the proposal up at a public workshop Thursday evening.

One mill is $1 in property tax for every $1,000 of taxable property value. The proposed rate keeps General Fund and Capital Improvements at 2.3894 mills, the town's entire adopted rate for 2025-26, and adds a dedicated Fire Fund line of 1.1992 mills, for a proposed town total of 3.5886 mills. The workshop comes before any formal adoption vote. WPTV reports that Palm Beach County turns the Abacoa fire station over to the town when municipal fire rescue starts Oct. 1.

Palm Beach County turns the Abacoa fire station over to the town when municipal fire rescue starts Oct. 1; renovating it as Fire Station 11, a new bunk room, decontamination additions, a renovated kitchen and a new roof, is priced at just over $4 million including planning and design, with construction that would begin in 2028.

County School Position Cuts Follow Enrollment Dip

The Palm Beach County School District is eliminating 214 teaching positions, 24 support staff positions and six administrative jobs following its Aug. 24 enrollment count, after already cutting all 76 media clerk positions. A district spokesman said it is working to reassign impacted employees to available vacant roles, and that there is no plan to close schools at this time. Enrollment at Jupiter Elementary, an A-rated school, is down 111 students from August 2025, among the largest elementary declines in the county. Districtwide, the 177,772 students counted on Aug. 24 are down 7,204 from the August 2025 count.

Bush Road Paving Scheduled for September 22 and 23

A limited section of Bush Road south of the White Wing development is scheduled for milling and paving on Sept. 22 and 23, part of closeout work for the three-lot development on the east side of the street. A single-lane closure will be in place with flaggers directing traffic. The dates are weather permitting and subject to change.
