Suni Sands deal in doubt as preservation pressure grows

Plus a Sept. 30 grant deadline and a new place for flatbreads and steaks.

September starts with a shaky Suni Sands deal, an all-clear on 1st Street water, and a stormwater grant deadline for neighborhoods that flood.

The big story

The deal between Jupiter and a developer over the former Suni Sands property is in doubt. Environmental advocates are pressing the town to preserve the site instead.

Their concern centers on the proposed marina at the waterfront property. That puts the development agreement and preservation campaign on the same track as Jupiter decides what happens next.

The dispute was reported on August 25. The next formal town action should show whether the agreement advances, changes or stalls.

1st Street boil water order has been lifted

Jupiter rescinded the 1st Street boil-water order on Friday, August 28. Tap water on the affected street is cleared for normal use again.

The town's notice applies specifically to 1st Street, not Jupiter as a whole. Residents and businesses there no longer need to boil water because of this order.

If you saved the original alert, the August 28 town notice is the all-clear that replaces it.

Fabricant Farms is heading to Jupiter

Fabricant Farms is coming to Jupiter with what its team calls a traditional, fun environment. The planned menu spans flatbreads, burgers, tacos and steaks.

A returning Fabricant Farms food truck will operate alongside the restaurant, giving the name both a mobile and a sit-down presence.

The announcement does not give an opening date or street address, so this is one to watch rather than a dinner plan to make yet. We will share the practical details when they are announced.

Stormwater grant money is open, with a September 30 deadline

Jupiter is accepting applications for its Private Stormwater Improvement Grant Program, with the next deadline on September 30. HOAs and other private entities inside town limits can apply.

Eligible capital projects must improve stormwater quality, reduce nuisance flooding or control erosion. Routine maintenance and work already underway or completed do not qualify.

The town may reimburse up to 50% of actual construction costs. Staff review the applications, and the Town Council considers grant agreements for approval. That makes September the month for an association to price a project and get its application together.

Applications must include the completed form, contractor quotes, annotated photos of existing conditions and engineering drawings when required. The town says it reviews submissions within 30 days.
