Lead story

Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is throwing open its doors for a free Summer Sip & Shop on Thursday, July 23, running from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 17855 Rocky Pines Road in Jupiter. The indoor evening pairs drinks and light bites with live music, a lineup of local vendors, and merchandise from the sanctuary's own gift shop. Every purchase feeds back into the sanctuary's core work of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, so browsing the tables doubles as support for the animals in its care. The gathering is casual and open to the community, but the sanctuary is asking guests to register in advance so it can prepare enough food, drink, and space for the crowd. (Busch Wildlife Sanctuary)

Speed enforcement steps up across Florida through July 18

Operation Southern Slow Down runs July 13-18, with Florida joining Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee in a coordinated push that pairs heightened speed enforcement with public education. State transportation officials cite speeding as a factor in about six percent of Florida traffic fatalities in the 2024 Florida Traffic Crash Facts report. The effort is statewide and not tied to any single checkpoint or location. (Florida Department of Transportation)

County keeps beach parking free for residents

Palm Beach County commissioners voted Tuesday night to keep parking free for county residents at county-owned beach parks and access points where it is currently free. Residents will eventually need a free annual beach-parking pass, though the application process and proof-of-residency requirements have not yet been set. The county still intends to develop paid parking for nonresidents. The rejected proposal would have charged at least $4 an hour at 12 county beaches that are free today, and more than 5,000 residents signed petitions against it. Not every Jupiter beach is county-owned or covered by the decision. (WPTV)

Jupiter Town Council is scheduled to take a first reading Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m. on Bears Club applications for a property-owners-association maintenance facility.
